Following numerous complaints by members of the public and others regarding parking and serious anti-social behaviour by the drivers of private hire cars, the Council has managed to persuade one of the companies concerned, Uber, to take some drastic action. From midnight on 17th February, Uber has moved its ‘virtual queue’ away from a defined area around the Airport, and prevented its drivers receiving trip requests in those areas. In addition, the company has resolved to inform drivers of the changes to the pick-up system at the Airport, provided London Borough of Newham (LBN) Enforcement Officers with a complaints form specifically related to the Airport, and are investigating a longer-term ‘holding area’ for cars and drivers with waiting facilities.

Uber and LBN Enforcement will continue to liaise in order to address any outstanding issues.
